This “bio-hack” is an incredible tool that gives you more flexibility during the holidays. Fasting can be used in many different ways and for different purposes. One of the features is improved immune system strength. We actually become healthier when we abstain from eating regularly. Fasting allows our bodies to clean out our systems and increase sensitivity to foreign invaders. This allows your body to stay in good health.

What happens when we fall ill and have symptoms like fever, chills, and other uncomfortable signs of healing? How can fasting help? Well, let’s take a look at our household pets. When a dog or cat gets sick, they usually abstain from eating for a few days. This is an innate intelligence at work. Fasting gives your body a break from having to digest food so it can focus resources for autophagy. Autophagy is your body’s natural way of cleaning out sick and damaged cells, including tumorigenic and pre-cancer cells, and those with free radical damage. Other benefits of fasting include regeneration of new immune cells, blood sugar regulation, hormone regulation, resetting your microbiome, and reducing systemic inflammation.

We recommend to start practicing closing your eating window by pushing your first meal of the day back by one hour each day until you can comfortably fast for 16 hours. If you have your last meal at 8 pm your goal is to make it to breakfast at noon the next day.
